Education Advisory Board

The ISC East Education Advisory Board is comprised of a mix of visionary manufacturers, end-users (including law enforcement and campus security), integrators, and adult education experts including the Security Industry Association (SIA). Board Members are involved in helping shape the curriculum for all job functions and levels and play an important role in helping identify speakers and specific session topics. The goal is to deliver the most meaningful and critical program to the advancement, continued productivity, efficiency, and intelligence of professionals across physical security and networking.

Laurie Aaron has been passionately involved in the Security Industry for over 20 years. She has held executive positions in manufacturing and software companies such as HID, Tyco Security Products, Quantum Secure and Building Intelligence. She recently accepted the position of Regional Vice President of Business Development for Qongify Inc., formerly NICE Systems. Ms. Aaron served four years on the Board of Directors at SIA from 2011 – 2015. Prior to that she was Chairman of the Board for the Open Security Exchange, a non-profit organization founded in 2001 by Computer Associates and Tyco to advance the convergence of IT and Physical Security. Laurie’s knowledge and experience with security technology provides great value and perspective to the SIA Education at ISCWest Board of Advisors.

Mr. Asnovich possesses a unique combination of leadership and execution experience in brand awareness elevation, lead generation and strategic communications. Before joining Hikvision, Mr. Asnovich was chief marketing officer for Proximex, a Tyco Security Products company, the global leader in physical security information management and integrated situational awareness, where he successfully elevated company and product brands and significantly increased demand generation. Prior to Tyco, Mr. Asnovich led global marketing initiatives for Xtralis, now a part of Honeywell, a recognized leader in highly-engineered security and life safety solutions worldwide. As vice president, global marketing with Xtralis, Mr. Asnovich oversaw all worldwide marketing initiatives for the multiple award-winning suite of company products. Mr. Asnovich also held leadership marketing roles at Nokia and other innovative technology companies where he was responsible for marketing efforts for a diverse portfolio of best in class hardware, enterprise software and SaaS solutions on a global scale. Alex holds a B.A. degree in Supply Chain Management from Michigan State University and an M.B.A. in Marketing from Arizona State University W.P. Carey School of Business.

Mr Asnovich is the Chairman for Retail Security Interest Group with SIA and is a contributor to various security industry publications, including Security System News, Security Products Magazine and SIA Technology Insights.

Anthony Berticelli is the Director of Education at PSA Security Network, the world’s largest electronic security cooperative. In this role, he is responsible for developing and managing all aspects of PSA’s education and training initiatives for the physical security market. This includes large educational events such as PSA TEC, online training resources for security integrators, and oversight of PSA’s educational committees.

Mr. Berticelli has over 13 years of experience in the security industry, including 12 with Target Corporation. He has held multiple roles at Target, including Senior Business Partner on the Corporate Security Technology team, where he was responsible for the management, strategy, and training content development for security technology projects. In this role he oversaw the customization, training, and worldwide rollout of Target’s surveillance system software, as well as the creation of a security dispatch center for headquarters locations, focused on the use of integrated technology solutions. In addition, he has expertise in crisis and asset protection training and leadership development programs.

Mr. Berticelli holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Economics and Computer Applications from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Florida International University.

Anthony C. Caputo has been a senior technical consultant since 1998, with the past eleven years exclusively as a city-wide digital video surveillance and Smart City technologist, and over twenty years of networking and digital video experience. He has worked as a Solution Architect and System Engineer for homeland security projects in public transportation, education, utilities, retail and municipalities including City of Chicago, New York City, Dallas, Fresno County (6,000 square miles), Denver, Puerto Rico, Antigua West Indies, Singapore, Australia, Equatorial Guinea, and Basra, Iraq.

He is the published author of McGraw-Hill’s Build Your Own Server and Elsevier’s best-selling Digital Video Surveillance and Security, now in its second edition, and written wireless troubleshooting and Smart City articles for Asia Pacific Security Magazine.

David is currently the Director of Security Education and Training for Memorial Hermann Healthcare System Integrated Protective Services. David previously held the position of Assistant Director Training and Crime Prevention for Hospital Shared Services, and served as the Criminal Justice Chairperson for Northeastern Junior College, where he was the Director of the Police Academy, in addition to serving as a Colorado police officer from 1984 through 2006. He also served as an adjunct criminal justice professor for several private colleges in Denver, Colorado.

David has 28 years of police, security and safety experience. He is a Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA) with IAHSS, and a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) with ASIS International. He holds a Masters degree in Criminal Justice Administrative Management and a Bachelor's degree in Criminology.

David is the current Vice-President / Secretary of the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Executive Board. David previously served as an active member of the IAHSS Council on Education from 2008-2010. He is a current member of the ASIS International Healthcare Committee.

David routinely lectures on workplace violence in healthcare, crime prevention and numerous healthcare and educational training topics. He has written training articles ranging from workplace safety in healthcare, safe patient control, personal and property protection, customer service, etc. He was interviewed by Birzer and Roberson where his professional law enforcement experience was profiled in “Police Field Operations”, Pearson publishing. David has served as a manuscript reviewer for Prentice Hall publishing. He reviews subjects in security, policing, corrections, and criminology. David also served on the education subject matter expert committee for the Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Board.

Otto has been a full-time sworn Peace Officer for the past twenty years, beginning his career as a Patrol Officer with the Los Angeles Police Department. Currently, Otto serves as the Homeland Security Division Program Project Manager at the Santa Ana Police Department. He is responsible for management, oversight, and monitoring of regional projects funded through the Federal Department of Homeland Security’s Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) Grant. His expertise includes projects related to Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive (CBRNE) Detection, Critical Infrastructure/Physical Security Protection, and Wireless Video Surveillance Systems. Otto serves as a Department Terrorism Liaison Officer (TLO) with the Orange County Intelligence Assessment Center (OCIAC), and has been a long-standing member of both the Security Industry Association (SIA) and the National Technology Investigator’s Association (NATIA). Otto’s extensive street patrol experience, combined with years of homeland security related project management has gained him valuable insight coupled with a unique perspective into the ever-changing direction of the Law Enforcement profession as it relates to new technologies and counter-terrorism efforts.

James Marcella is the director of technical services for Axis Communications. In this role, Mr. Marcella oversees technical support and industry associations for North American operations.

Mr. Marcella joined Axis in 1996 as a business development manager. In this position, he managed the company's Application Developer Partner program for North America, finding best-of-breed software developers to create applications specifically for Axis' network video products. He led the development of the Axis Communications Academy which has grown into a global education and certification program. Mr. Marcella later served as the government solutions manager and was responsible for developing the company's authorized dealer channel and growing business in the federal market.

Mr. Marcella has represented Axis Communications at a number of high-profile events, including ISC West, ASIS and TechSec. He is an instructor for ASIS' national education program and a member of the leadership team of the ASIS Physical Security Council. Mr. Marcella often contributes and is quoted in a variety of security and IT industry publications, including SDM, SD&I and WIRED.com.

A 35-year veteran in the life-safety market as technology leader, educator and executive, Milburn is a talented speaker and has made presentations at key conferences and association meetings, including the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), National Independent Fire Alarm Distributors (NIFAD), National Systems Contractors Association (NSCA), Automatic Fire Alarm Association (AFAA), and American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS). He has written numerous articles for such publications as Campus Safety, Security Technology Executive, Commercial Building Products, Security Dealer & Integrator, and Security Sales & Integration and been interviewed by hundreds of publications over the years. Milburn is also involved in several organizations, including NFPA, ASIS, AMA, and is a board member of SIA.

Prior to Eaton, Milburn has been employed by several life safety organizations, including Notifier, Edwards, EST, and GE Security, where he worked in design engineering, customer and technical support, training, product development, business development and marketing.

Milburn graduated with an MBA from NOVA Southeastern University, a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from Eckerd College and coursework in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nebraska.

She actively works with internal teams for the Securing New Ground Conference. Ms. Roberts interacts with volunteer committees on Security Project Management training initiatives, where efforts have been successful in the development of instructor-led and online training courses. Kimberly earned a Bachelor’s of Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Howard University and a Training Specialist Certificate from Georgetown University.

Matthew Rosenquist joined Intel Corp in 1996 and benefits from nearly 25 years in the field of security. Mr. Rosenquist specializes in security strategy, measuring value, and developing cost effective capabilities and organizations which deliver the optimal level of security. Currently, a cyber-security strategist for the Intel Security Group, he helped in the formation of this industry leading organization which brings together security across hardware, firmware, software and services.

Mr. Rosenquist built and managed Intel’s first global 24x7 Security Operations Center, oversaw several internal platform security products and services, deployed the enterprise intrusion detection program, and was Intel’s first Incident Commander for worldwide IT emergency responses. He has conducted investigations and risk assessments in defense of corporate assets and managed the security playbook for Intel’s strategy planning group, encompassing all security features landing in the PC architecture. Mr. Rosenquist ran security for Intel’s multi-billion dollar mergers and acquisitions activities and justified the security strategy protecting Intel’s global manufacturing capability. His development of the Threat Agent Risk Assessment (TARA) methodology to optimize security, has influenced how organizations view and prioritize risks.

Mr. Rosenquist is very active in the industry, speaks at conferences, consults with industry partners, member of advisory boards for cyber education, and has published acclaimed white papers, blogs, and videos on a wide range of information security topics. He is very passionate about security and information technology, his chosen career path, and strives to blend practical risk mitigation practices and information technology capabilities to achieve an optimal level of security.

After three successful years of managing sales channels on the east coast, Schimpf joined the marketing team to develop the A&E, Reseller and Technology Partner Programs. He also authored Arecont Vision’s core education material, which became the Channel Partner Certification Program. In 2013, Schimpf added sales operations, customer service and inside sales to his responsibilities. Additionally, he serves on the SIA (Security Industry Association) Education Advisory Board.

Mr. Schimpf holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati.

Sherida Sessa is Vice President of the Reed Security Portfolio, managing the ISC East, ISC West & Connected Security Events. In this position, she leads a team of 10 full-time staff members – including sales, marketing & education – who are dedicated to producing valuable, business building events for the IT & physical security industries.

Prior to this position, Sherida oversaw education program development for ISC East & West, working directly with the ISC Education Advisory Board and the Security Industry Association to produce up to 75 industry-leading sessions per show.

Sherida is a graduate of Cornell University, with a Bachelor of Science in Communication. She also holds a Master’s from Marist College in Organization Communication & Leadership.

Prior to Axis, Steve served as group manager and strategic technical liaison at Panasonic. Prior to that Steve was an account manager at Wells Fargo Alarm Services.

A regular contributor to numerous industry forums and blogs, Steve has been quoted and published in many Infrastructure, Safety and Security-related publications such as Access Control, Security Director News and Security Products.

Steve recently completed a significant contribution to BICSI's CCTV and Integration Chapters for their upcoming Electronic Security Manual. Steve holds a bachelors degree in engineering from The Cooper Union.

Ed Adams

Mr. Adams is a Ponemon Institute Fellow and founded the Application Security Industry Consortium, Inc. (AppSIC), a non-profit association of industry analysts, enterprise technologists, and security leaders established to define cross-industry application security metrics and best practices that eventually morphed into SAFECode at which point Mr. Adams got more engaged with other industry initiatives, including OWASP. Mr. Adams is on the board of the National Association of Information Security Groups (NAISG), and the International Secure Software Engineering Council (ISSECO). In February of 2014, Mr. Adams was named a Privacy by Design Ambassador, which is a group of privacy thought-leaders committed to ensuring the ongoing protection of personal information by following the Principles of PbD.

Jeremy Brecher

Mr. Brecher led Diebold Enterprise Security's US operations and information technology group. Managed numerous large-scale national and global electronic security system conversions and new deployments for Fortune 500 companies in a variety of environments, including construction, transportation, and commercial. Mr. Brecher is the Chair of The SIA Cloud, Mobility and IoT Subcommittee explores the impact of the Cloud and mobility on Physical Security and focuses on developing Cloud and mobility standards for the industry. Candidate areas for standardization include a cloud security reference model, and a common Cloud session establishment framework for physical security products.

Herb Kelsey

Chief Architect, Guardtime

Mr. Kelsey has provided engineering support for enterprise architectures in commercial and government markets for more than 20 years. Becoming IBM’s Deputy CTO for cyber security in 2008, he advised the Executive and Legislative branches of the U.S. government on security matters, developed a secure cloud computing environment for the Air Force Cyber Command and helped shape the security approach for the IBM’s Smarter Planet initiative. Prior to 2001, Herb was engaged widely in multiple commercial industries such as banking, automotive and information technology. After 9/11, as an IBM executive consultant, he worked on DoD and Intelligence Community infrastructure transformations; notably, serving two years as Chief Architect for a DoD agency’s Lead System Integrator.

Godfrey Chua

Principle Analyst, Machina Research

Mr. Chua brings over 15 years of experience and has worked extensively with network vendors, service providers, financial institutions, government agencies and solution developers in the communications and IoT space. His research examines the key aspects defining a successful strategy in M2M. He also pays particular attention to emerging business models and the ecosystems evolving in the Industrial Internet and Consumer IoT segments. Prior to joining Machina Research, Godfrey managed and helped launch the M2M and the Internet of Things program at Infonetics Research. Previous to this, he was a member of the Advanced Technologies team at Juniper Networks where he focused on mobile solutions, M2M, and next-generation mobile core technologies go-to-market efforts.
