Securing Public Venues: Looking Beyond the Walls for a More Holistic Approach to Safety

November 20, 2019, 3:15 PM - 4:00 PM

Theater 1

Over the years, public venues have significantly improved security within the walls by adding technology solutions like video surveillance, analytics and metal detectors, as well as better utilizing and educating security personnel on site. A positive step towards overall safety, but with today’s evolving threats it’s time to look beyond the walls.

In this session, moderator Scott Dunn of Axis Communications and panelist Adam Stockwell of the Milwaukee Bucks will explore the importance of perimeter protection and how to keep the public safe from the moment arrive at a venue. Whether its fans tailgating before the big game or the pickup area in front of an airport – it is the venue’s duty to secure the area. Adam will share the challenges they each face regarding perimeter security, what perimeters they are most focused on and best practices for securing each.

Panelist Kevin Magenis of Steel City Optronics will also share an overview of new security solutions, such as weapon screening technology and millimeter wave technology cameras, that can help venues better secure the venue’s perimeter.

Learning Outcomes:
1. Demonstrate a clear understanding for what challenges venues are facing today regarding perimeter protection.
2. Make informed decisions about which security solutions would be best for a venue integration.
3. Implement security venue best practices into current and future projects.
